This weekend if you live in Toronto, Canada then you should TOTALLY come say hi to me at the Toronto Comics Arts Festival from May 7-8th!

Not only will I be tabling next to two of the raddest ladies I know, Dylan Meconis and Lucy Knisley, but I will also be speaking on a couple panels in the library and at an off-site event.

All on Saturday:
-2:30 in Learning Center 1, Ask a Freelancer (With Dylan and Lucy)
-4:14 in Learning Center 1, That Comic Isn’t About Me: Gender, Sexuality, and Race in Comics (with Yuko Ota, Ananth Panagariya, Ryan North, and Jose Villarubia)
-6:30 at Crews/Tango, 508 Church St., TCAFabulous: Queer Mixer (With Jose Villarubia, Maurice Vellekoop and Zan Christensen)

–First up, I’ve made a little chapter guide, now that we’ve actually got enough material to do that.

–Second up, oh man, who all is coming to mothafuckin Stumptown Comics Fest April 16-17 in Portland, OR?? ME, I AM. I will be at Table C-23, surrounded on either side, as you can see from this map, by my favorite bros.
Stumptown Comics Fest 2011
I will be speaking on three panels over the weekend:

  • –Saturday at 11am in room A105, Making Comics
Four Portand comics creators share the tools and techniques behind their latest work. Comics Alliance Editor-in-chief Laura Hudson moderates the discussion with Jonathan Case, David Hahn, Dylan Meconis and Erika Moen.
  • –Sunday at 12pm in room A106, Autobio Comics: How Much is Too Much? Autobiographical-comics artists often struggle with the line separating private life and public art. Listen as Erika Moen, Jeffrey Brown, Emi Lenox, Natalie Nourigat, and Katie Shanahan share their own experiences drawing this line.
  • –Sunday at 5pm in room A105, Ask a Freelancer
Seasoned pros of the self-employed art and comic worlds, Dylan Meconis, Erika Moen, and Steve Lieber are here to personally sherpa you through the jagged mountains of freelancing. With years of experience under their belts these artists will tackle such questions as, ‘Do I need a higher education to be a professional artist?’, ‘How do I self-publish?’, and the ever-terrifying ‘How do taxes work when you’re doing this solo?’

I hope to see some of you rad dudes there!

B-b-b-back from Northampton and ConBust! Big thanks to Rich Stevens for being my weekend buddy and to Jeph Jacque and KC Green for quality hangouts. It was a complete pleasure to meet RJ Edwards, Randall Munroe and talk about the mating habits of Bonobos with Rosemary Mosco, all incredibly lovely people.
